Deforestation-free cocoa is grown on land that has not been created by clearing forests. To be certified, a farm must prove that its cocoa trees were planted on existing farmland and that no natural forest was cleared after a specific "cut-off" date. This helps preventing the destruction of rainforests, protects animal habitats, and helps fight climate change by keeping carbon stored in the trees.
